Just wanted to say a very big thank you for the  LW-20 lonwire antenna which went up yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised how well it has tuned to 40m, a band that I have had minimal success with my vertical antenna in the past. Highly recommended and thanks for a prompt delivery, and the advice I sought from you was most appreciated

Hi Nigel,

Recently purchased the HW-40HP to replace an old half size G5RV.

I only have a small garden so one leg of the antenna has to slope down the roof of the bungalow from the chimney and the other leg goes out to a tree and has to be bent to enable it to fit the available space.

The antenna tunes up perfectly on all bands 40 to 10mtrs with my Icom AT-180 tuner and tunes up at swr 1.5:1 on 80 mtrs through my Vectronics VC300 manual tuner. I have had some contacts on 80 mostly on PSK31.

The antenna seems to bring in a little more noise than the G5RV but I am making some good contacts on all bands.

Just called CQ on 20 mtrs PSK31 using 35watts and received a contact straight back with a K4 who reported, "its just after 7am here and your booming into North Carolina", I was very pleased. A UA9 also replied to me on 20mtrs PSK just after the K4.

The HW-40HP looks very neat and is not as obtrusive as the G5RV which had the ladder line running down the roof.

So far all looks good. Time will tell.

Thanks for the phone advice and speedy delivery.

Hi Nigel

The HW20-HP that I bought took 5 minutes to cable tie to the washing line which is 2 meters high.  With 100 watts I have worked  into Russia 5000km and California 8000km.  All the bands that is is supposed to work on I have tried and have +1000km contacts on them all.  What a great little aerial.  Take a look at my log on QRZ.com and all those stations are worked from this antenna.  Remember it is 2 meters high and not a £1000 beam.

Anyone reading this I urge you to buy one of these antennas. I bought the LW20 and installed it lazy "Z" in my loft (not much real estate attached to my QTH I'm afraid) and it works a treat...had a few QSO's into Russia and Italy using an FT817 and got respectable sigs reports...Good Job Nigel...great site great product....:)

Hi Nigel, your website is lovely to read - well set out and really clear. Top marks mate!! I currently have a TGM min beam and need a balun - would your 1:1 high power version be suitable? Well done once again, site is superb!!!

Hi Dave,

It really depends on how much power you are going to put through it. The 1:1 high power balun will work with up to 400W CW or 500W PEP and the 1:1XP Extra High Power will handle 1.5KW (same as the beam). Either one will be suitable for your purposes if you are only planning to work within the UK limits.

Hi Nigel would say that your design is very well thought through. And radio amateur who had to use one 9:1 UNUN had even hassle of making one, but gave up. And then he called me if I could get him a Balun
